An Energetic House Clearing
Last month I hired a local energy worker (Leigh Anne) to clear our home.
For a few years now, I’ve felt a strange sense of stagnation here. Even though there are so many things we love about this house, I couldn’t deny that the energy felt heavy and I never quite felt at home.

A few days before the clearing, I started with the physical: a deep, intentional declutter. This alone was refreshing, not because I haven’t decluttered before - I have my moon in the 6th house, I am always in a state of decluttering, but because this time felt more firm. I felt myself being serious — with a soul-level understanding of the consequences of having too much to manage. As I moved through the house, I stopped at each item, asking myself: do I really want to put my time and energy into managing this? Or is this keeping me from what I really want? More peace, more calm, more time with family, more time here, on the blog.
Lessons in Creating a Sacred Space
It’s interesting that this house clearing happened on the new moon in Capricorn. Capricorn is about our foundations. It asks us: what foundations are you building your life on? Are they supportive of the life you want to build? I was reminded that for me to thrive, my energy needs to come first. When my energy is cluttered, I do not thrive in the physical world. This includes my home too.
If your house is also feeling stagnant, here’s what I learned through the process:
Pay attention to your windows & mirrors: From an energetic perspective, these are the gateway into your home. Not only that, but mirrors - while beautiful - absorb energy and project it back out, so you need to be intentional about where they are placed in your home. Leigh Anne used chimes to clear our windows and doorways and an herbal spray to clear our mirrors. She paid special attention to the mirror in our entry—it’s the first thing energy hits when anyone walks through our front door, so any overwhelm or bad moods that come in from outside get absorbed and projected back into our space.
Clear your antique finds: I love to thrift and while I clean thrifted and vintage items, I don’t often take the time to clear them energetically. Leigh-Anne reminded me of the importance of taking time to clear the energy of anything thrifted, antiqued and/or passed down because you just don’t know what energetic space those items came from. The easiest way to do this is with sound (she recommends chimes) or a washcloth with a salt spray. You can also use smoke if that aligns with you.
Using technology for good: During her visit we spoke about technology and using it for our betterment rather than our fall. She spoke about how one of the easiest ways to raise the vibration of your space — especially in the busy years — is to play an energy clearing video on YouTube. I’ve been putting on these videos by Stone Soup Grimoire when I’m cleaning or while the kids are playing, or even just as background music to start or end the day. The colours are soothing and I’ve found it to be a great way to reset the frequency of my own heart - and also our space.
Paying attention to the land: One of my requests for the visit was to offer prayers to the land our house is on and protection so that it can be a sanctuary for the deer and chipmunks and other wildlife that make their way through; a place where their nervous systems can rest and know true refuge. As she was outside she came in with a message — telling me, do not cut down the Hawthorns! They are the protectors of the space and the fairies love them. It’s funny because I’ve been thinking about cutting them down, or moving them, so I won’t be now.
As a lover of vintage, I realized my home was a library of other people’s stories. Clearing them - energetically - allows me to write my own story.
The Ripple Effect
About a week after the clearing, we walked in after a long day out. Without thinking, I said, "It’s so nice to be home." And these days, three weeks later, I’ve found myself opting to stay home when opportunities come up to leave the house. It’s really interesting to watch that unfold!
If you’re feeling stagnant, don’t wait for a major renovation.
Start with the energy.
Start by deciding that your peace is worth taking the energy of your home seriously. Because after all, your home is an extension of you, and you deserve taking your wellbeing seriously too. <3
